Wilma Hansen School Parent Counsel

Hi Wilma Families - Happy New Year!

We are so excited to head into this next part of the school year.  Here are some fabulous upcoming opportunities to get involved!

*Healthy Hunger Distribution - volunteers are needed who can support these fun student meals.  These have the added bonus of being a fundraiser to support student field trip bussing and other important Council expenditures.  If you can spare about 40 minutes of time on a Wednesday (from 12:40pm) or Friday (from 10:40am) - check out this link for dates & details!

Wilma Hansen School Council would like to keep you up to date with what is happening this fall: volunteer opportunities, band information, meetings, fundraising, and more! Please fill out this brief contact form so that we can send you information: https://bit.ly/WilmaContact24.

Attendance

It is important that you call the school if your child is going to be absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-7430 ext.1.

Please make sure to spell the student’s last name and include the date of the absence in the message.

Alternatively, you can email Mrs. Crane in the main office at: decranemctaggart@cbe.ab.ca.

See more on our attendance page: https://wilmahansen.cbe.ab.ca/attendance

School Parking lot is off limits

Please do not enter, stop, or park in the parking lot during the school day.

Given that there are no parking stalls available for public use, and given that dropping off students in the parking lot is prohibited (and extremely unsafe), there is no reason for any parent/guests to be driving in the school parking lot, before, during and after school.

Bus zones, Handicap Parking zones and the school parking lot should not be used at anytime for dropping off or picking up students. This is in accordance with CBE policy to ensure the safety of all students.

If you are parking on the other side of the street, please insist that your children use the crosswalks, and not jay walk. Parents and students jaywalking between buses is extremely problematic, and we ask that parents/students obey the law and not jaywalk. Pedestrians should cross the street at corners and crosswalks only.

School Bus Zone

We would like to remind all parents that the bus loading/unloading zone in front of our school is designated for our school buses only. The bus drivers must be able to bring their bus close to the curb in order to safely drop-off and pick-up our students. This becomes very difficult and unsafe when there are parent vehicles parked in this area. We ask that if you must leave your vehicle parked for a short time, to use the parking areas across the street. We have 5 busses this year, and they require all the space in the bus zone…right up to the crosswalk! Thank you for your help in keeping our bus zone a safe area.

My Bus Stop App

MyBusStop is a dynamic mobile and desktop application that delivers real time information of a subscriber’s bus location, route information, schedule, route progress, and possible delays. You can also track more than one route with MyBusStop by entering an additional school code and add the route (you will need to use the desktop app to add an additional route).

Fashion – Why fit in when you were born to stand out!

Wilma Hansen’s fashion classes are about to start (semester 2) and we are super excited to watch the students design and create!

We are currently looking for donations of fabrics and fashion embellishments (buttons, lace, ribbon etc.). Please feel free to drop off items in the main office or send with your child to school. Everything is welcome! Thank you for helping to make fashion a success!
