Important Upcoming Dates
Spirit Week We are excited to share that Spirit Week is just around the corner! From December 15–19, students are encouraged to join in the fun as we celebrate each day with a different school-wide theme. This is a great opportunity to build community, show school pride, and bring some extra joy to the final week before the break. Please see the table below for a full list of daily themes so your child can participate and plan ahead.
Band Concert We are thrilled to invite all families to our Winter Band Concert on December 16th! Doors will open at 5:30 pm in the main gym. Concert starts promptly at 6:00pm! Our students have been working hard, and we look forward to sharing an evening of music and celebration with our school community. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we encourage you to bring along any refundable bottles or cans for our bottle drive taking place that same night. Your support helps our programs continue to grow—thank you in advance! Veteran’s Food Drive Wilma Hansen students are running a Veteran’s food drive in support of veterans in need. If you can donate, please consider sending the following non-perishable items with your student to support the drive.
Dry Goods:
Donations can be given to HR teachers or the front office. All donations will be picked up by the Canadian Veterans Services Society on December 16, 2025. Thank you for your support! First View App (Bussing) Please note that all bus routes, pick-up times, and drop-off times are managed entirely by the transportation provider. The school does not have control over route changes, delays, or real-time bus locations. For this reason, we are unable to provide immediate updates when buses run late. To stay informed, it is essential that all families use the FirstView bus tracking app. This app allows you to:
If you have not yet downloaded the FirstView app, please do so as soon as possible. Instructions for creating an account and connecting to your child’s route are available on the app’s website, through the district’s transportation office and just below this paragraph. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure a safe and efficient transportation experience for all students. If you have questions about routes or delays, please contact the transportation provider directly. Thank you for your continued support. How to Get Started:
FirstView also offers multilingual support and a user-friendly help section to assist with any setup or usage questions. Need Help? If you have questions or need help setting up the app, please contact:
Attendance It is important that you call the school if your child is going to be absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-7430 ext.1.
Please make sure to spell the student’s last name and include the date of the absence in the message.
Alternatively, you can email Mrs. Crane in the main office at: decranemctaggart@cbe.ab.ca.

School Parking lot is off limits
Please do not enter, stop, or park in the parking lot during the school day.
Given that there are no parking stalls available for public use and given that dropping off students in the parking lot is prohibited (and extremely unsafe), there is no reason for any parent/guests to be driving in the school parking lot, before, during and after school.
Bus zones, Handicap Parking zones and the school parking lot should not be used at anytime for dropping off or picking up students. This is in accordance with CBE policy to ensure the safety of all students.
If you are parking on the other side of the street, please insist that your children use the crosswalks, and not jay walk. Parents and students jaywalking between buses is extremely problematic, and we ask that parents/students obey the law and not jaywalk. Pedestrians should cross the street at corners and crosswalks only.
School Bus Zone
We would like to remind all parents that the bus loading/unloading zone in front of our school is designated for our school buses only. The bus drivers must be able to bring their bus close to the curb in order to safely drop-off and pick-up our students. This becomes very difficult and unsafe when there are parent vehicles parked in this area. We ask that if you must leave your vehicle parked for a short time, to use the parking areas across the street. We have 7 busses this year, and they require all the space in the bus zone…right up to the crosswalk! Thank you for your help in keeping our bus zone a safe area.
Leadership
Our Leadership class is excited to offer Candy Grams this season! Students can purchase one for $2.50 at the Hawks and Stocks store during lunch. Each Candy Gram includes a hot chocolate and a candy cane, and will be delivered on December 19, the last day before winter break. This is a fun way for students to send a small holiday treat to friends or staff, and all proceeds support our Leadership activities.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
We wrapped up our Scholastic Book Fair last week, and I'm pleased to report that (with just a little help from our Parent Council), we were able to meet our minimum goal of $2000 in sales. At this sales point, we earn 30% in rewards instead of 15%, and Scholastic continues to offer sales to us. We are hoping to do another one in the spring. So thank you to all of you who purchased books (including staff and parent volunteers) and who sent money along with your students to purchase at the fair. We hope everyone had a good time and are happy with their purchases.
Happy reading everyone! I hope your winter break is a time of joy and rest and spending time with the people you love, doing the things you love doing!
As always you can find Mrs. Wiebe’s blog on our Wilma website under the Learning Commons tab: https://wilmahansen.cbe.ab.ca/learning-commons-library.
Happy reading!
